Wilts) New Coll. Oxf. me. 9 Nov 1621, age 14: BA
1624: HA 1628. For 3 years chaplain to Lord Robartes. V. of Tamerton Foliot
1640. On outbreak of war fled to London.
'There he got a good living about fifteen
Miles from the City, and continu'd in it a Year. Signed Testimony 1648. Member of Devon
Association 1655. Remained at Stoke
after ejection. Took Oxford
Oath 1666. Will 7
July 1672: P.C.C. 15 April 1673. Property at Blackawton, Dittisham and Stockland. Daughters by 1st
— wife (a niece of Fra. Rous,
provost of Eton) Dorothy,
Joan and Elizabeth: wife Hannah and children, Anthony, William, Richard,
Hannah, and Mary. Accused by Walker,
among other offences, of having at Stoke scandalous curates, of whom one a Jesuit. Calamy prints undated statement, signed
by Bayly's daughters, Joan Creed and Elizabeth Bayly, that their father never employed a curate there. Calamy
states 'I have been informed, that Mrs
Burneghain, Hr Baily's Aunt, by the Mother's
side, was at the Charge of Educating the famous Archbishop Laud, as the
Archbishop himself when at the Top of his Preferment did frankly and gratefully acknowledge'.
