Dear Pat,   In rely to your E-mail of 21/8/01,  I type out below =

summaries of some documents I have come across which might be of =

interest to anyone searching for their ancestors,  or for the history of =

property in NFL.      The originals are all in the Devon Record Office,  =

Castle Street, Exeter  and are legal documents, very long and verbose =

(those guys were paid by the number of words, I reckon.)   Following the =

practice of professional archivists I have summarised them to select out =

the dates, names, job descriptions, and property details,   missing out =

        ALL WHICH were late in possession of Thomas Jago, deceased, but =

now of Joan Pennellicke for the remainder of 80 years on the lives of =

linen, ready money, securities etc. and personal estate of considerable =

value,

 

        - by the marriage contract Edward Wheeler has agreed not to have =

any rights over her lands in NFL or DM,  the rents of which will go to =

her during her lifetime but at her death to Edward Wheeler except for 1 =

silver tankard and 6 silver spoons which are to go to Phillip, son of =

Joan P.

 

        - all the rest of the estate valued at =A3320 and more to be =

received by Edward Wheeler as a marriage portion,

 

        NOW  Joan Pennellicke sells all the NFL and DM properties to =

Prowse and Choke IN TRUST that Phillip Pennellicke may hold and enjoy =

Trathen, who sold it to Robert Sparke, then late of DM and then Henry =

Sparke who survived Robert,  and their heirs, =20

 

AND ALSO  1 storehouse .......in ST. JOHNS ......adjoining the =

VICE-ADMIRALTY ROOM there,  and formerly in possession of Henry Neadon =

.... then of John Staford,   then of Thomas Mann his son ..... who sold =

it to Henry Sparke by indenture of 2/7/1790,

 

AND ALSO all other messuages, plantation lands in NFL which belonged to =
