The Regatta, too, is still held at the’ same time every year—the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in August—and to this event many exiled Dartmothians religiously pay a visit, renew old friendships and acquaintances, and re-visit the scenes of their youth.
At the last Regatta it was suggested by some of these non-resident townsmen that an Association be formed of exiled or non-resident Dartmothians. The Regatta being the great annual event of the town and held in August, the holiday month, it was thought that more Dartmothians would be likely to visit the old town at that time than any other. It was suggested that all could meet at a luncheon, on the first day of the Regatta, when old friendships might be renewed, old associations and recollections revived.
It may yet be possible for those old Dartmothians, who have been absent for many years, to find friends and acquaintances even if only in the sons of the boys they once knew.
To these and all other old Dartmothians a very hearty welcome would be extended at the luncheon proposed to be held annually on the first day of the Regatta. Should you feel inclined to join the Old Dartmothians' Association, please tear off slip attached and enclose P.O. for os. as Annual Subscription to cover cost of luncheon, &c.
If the Association is a success, its scope may be enlarged perhaps in assisting some deserving local object, and if you have any suggestions to make the Committee will be pleased to consider them.
It has been suggested that a record be kept of all those present at the annual gatherings, and letters read from those unable to attend, list of members and their addresses, together with a balance sheet, to be placed in a conspicuous position at the luncheon.
Each member of the Association will be notified of the meeting place, time, and place, by a postcard, to which he should at once reply, stating his intention of being present or otherwise.
Several absent Dartmothians have already expressed their desire to join, and the following, Lieut. 8. C. Legg, R.N., Alderman J. J. H. Moses, J.P., C.C., Major W. H. Fox, have offered to join with three resident Dartmothians to form a Provisional Committee, and Mr. F. J. Voisey has undertaken the duties of Honorary Secretary (pro tern.).
